Artwork: "Women on Country"
Meaning: This artwork symbolises women coming together to collect bush berries, seeds and wildflowers on Country. Food collected by women such as fruits, seeds and grains for bread making provided a regular diet for Aboriginal families on a daily basis. Women possess a detailed knowledge of our local environment, knowing which plants held food and medicinal properties, how to use them, and where to find them. Women are educators, instilling in their jarjum’s (children) the knowledge of how to locate, gather, prepare food and care for Country.
