The Teaching Tools
From the limited edition Holly Sanders x The Teaching Tools collection.
Meaning: This artwork represents sand hills and Country, symbolising a connection to the land and ocean. The warm natural colours represent the sand, ochre and colours of the Country. This artwork celebrates ocean Country and the importance of sand environments that provided an abundance of wild food and resources to trade and share. The smaller ‘U’ shaped patterns throughout symbolise people, who pass on the knowledge of ocean Country to their jarjums (children). This is an important tradition where sand art, a common art form in coastal areas, is used to create a temporary picture and story and was then washed away by the next high tide.
All descriptions have been written by Holly Sanders.
This collaboration is a celebration of women: powerful, strong, resourceful and determined. Thousands of generations of women have guided and supported each other on Country since millennia and have birthed and nurtured centuries of people into existence.
The story telling and symbols used in this contemporary art stamp set does not represent all First Nations cultural groups or people, if in doubt always check within your community.
