Welcome to the new generation of teacher stamps!
From the limited edition Holly Sanders x The Teaching Tools collection.
Meaning: In some First Nations cultures, emus were creator spirits that soared through the sky above and looked over the land. There are many stories about the ‘emu in the sky’ and the dark emu can be seen today in the negative space between the stars in the Milky Way. Emu’s were incredibly helpful, and the Emu in the Sky helped First Nations people predict what was happening in the world around them. Depending on the time of year, Emu in the Sky is oriented to either appear sitting or running. And depending on the position the Emu was in; First Nations people knew whether they should be out hunting for emus or collecting their eggs.
All descriptions have been written by Holly Sanders.
This stamp collaboration is a celebration of First Nations people and children who have been learning on this country for over a thousand generations. As the first teachers, First Nations people’s cultural traditions and knowledge has been passed down for thousands of years.
The story telling and symbols used in this contemporary art stamp set does not represent all First Nations cultural groups or people, if in doubt always check within your community.
